SPEAKERS

Eve McLaughlin is Secretary and Editor for the Bucks Genealogical Society, Internationally known as author of the long series of McLaughlin Guides for the Family Historian, and has been a professional genealogist for upwards of 60 years.

Illegitimacy & Adoption – Finding illegitimacy in the family is almost bound to happen sometime but it is not unusually a bar to further research.

The way it was handled varied, but usually produced a lot of paperwork, not on moral but financial grounds. Adoption only became formal and legal in 1926 though some existed earlier.

Eve explores what evidence is available and how to explore family traditions using newspapers and even DNA.

Making Ends Meet – Most people lived on a very tight budget and an emergency demand for money was a disaster.

How did our ancestors cope with a shortfall in the amount of money for basic living expenses. Parish relief, local charities, Friendly Societies, Pawnbrokers or “gnawing it out” to keep the family afloat are covered in an overview of what life offered before Wonga.

Jackie Depelle is Chairman of the Yorkshire Group of Family History Societies as well as running events under her own company name Your Fair Ladies she works for many organisations and regularly speaks at Who Do You Think You Are – Live at Olympia in London.

Ideas for organising your Family History Research – The hardest & most important part is. to record sources & store them in an organised way.

Not to forget memorabilia, surviving artifacts & todays digital images.
