‘Sense and the Census’  Dr Janet Few

This was a very informative talk with many humorous comments and examples.  Janet explained that censuses have been held since Greek and Romans times; and most countries now hold them every 5 or 10 years. 

The Census identifies the size, age, sex and distribution of the population. Since 1841 the British Census records names, ages and occupations.  Other questions have been added since and the 1911 Census gives details of years of marriage and number of children, which is very useful for research purposes.  [Read More...]
