The Second Edition of the National Burial Index was published as a four CD set by the Federation of Family History Societies in September 2004.  It has over 13 million records from 50 counties but not all parishes or dates have complete coverage.  The CD's include records from a small number of parishes in various counties dating back to the 16th century.  Some counties in Wales still do not have any records in the Second Edition but all English counties (except IoW & Channel Islands) now have at least some entries. Visit http://www.ffhs.org.uk/General/Projects/NBIcounties.htm for a full listing of the county parishes and dates covered.

Cleveland Family History Society contributed nearly 600,000 entries for the Second Edition covering parishes within Northern Yorkshire and Southern Durham.

We will be adding to this for the next edition, and would welcome help transcribing records which would entail visiting local record offices or ordering film at a Mormon Family History Centre. (Expenses to do this will be reimbursed) or perhaps you can assist by entering the data onto computer. Please contact g.brown17@ntlworld.com if you can spare time with this excellent project.

Although the Cleveland Family History Society is unable to undertake research for individuals, any queries relating to possible extra information such as abode where given in the original source, may be sent to Geoff Brown 29 Cradley Drive, Brookfield, Middlesbrough TS5 8HF. A small handling fee of £2.00 (in stamps or sterling cheque) per surname is charged for this service. Go to webpage ‘Burial Database’ for order form and details.
