Stockton & Darlington Railway Enginemen & Wages - May 1837

Class Rail 667/1530 at the PRO (Kew) contains about fifty pay lists for enginemen’s wages covering the period 1837 to 1847. Some of these wage payments seem to be very large for the period but I believe the drivers had to pay the running costs themselves. They would have paid for the coal, water and fireman’s wage, etc. out of the sums below.
