APPRENTICES TO THE COMPANY OF SHIPWRIGHTS
The listing of names are taken from the extant
records of the Company of Shipwrights of Newcastle-upon-tyne which should be
found in the Northumberland CRO. There are 13 volumes made up of the book of
orders and rules of the company 1622 – 1908; records of the Company’s meetings
with lists of attendances; admissions dating from 1711 – 1873; the annual
accounts from 1673 – 1887; two registers of the fines levied on members from
1753 – 1874,and two volumes of records of apprentices indentured to members of
the Company and shipwrights made free of the Company dating from 1613 – 1945.
Names given here are only those where the place
of origin was in South Durham or North Yorkshire.
